Birds of Ethiopia & East Africa.

Ethiopia is one of the best suitable  Zone for a great diversity of Avifauna in the world.

Geographically Ethiopia is proximity to the equator. More than 920 species of birds are recorded.  Out of This number 30 of them are a species of Ethiopian endemic birds that they are restricted to Ethiopia or to the horn of Africa. we also believe that undiscovered species might be found in a possible probability throughout your birding exploration in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia is now became one of a top birding destination in the world.

As regards the avifauna, Ethiopia and Eritrea are one of Africa’s birding hotspots possesing 920 species, including the 30 species endemic to Ethiopia and Eritrea what represents 3.3% of total avifauna. Within these endemic species, one can find four endemic genera, namely Cyanochen, Rougetius, Parophasma and Zavattariornis. Nearly 20 of these endemic species are remarkably abundant, tame and readily identified, enabling observers to obtain outstanding views (i.e. Thick-billed Raven, Wattled Ibis or Black-winged Lovebird). Besides, there are at least two Serinus species more awaiting to be described plus six other taxa with doubtful taxonomical or regional status (some of them still need to be confirmed as endemic to Ethiopia and Eritrea). The endemic species restricted to Ethiopia are 16

1), while the species restricted to the geographical region of Ethiopian Highlands and thus shared by Ethiopia and Eritrea are 14.

It is worth remarking that about 214 paleartic migrants have been recorded from Ethiopia, of these a large number of them have breeding populations in the country.
